11th Reunion of Reunions a Success!

Rust College and Mississippi Industrial College Alumni Visit Holly Springs for a Great Event

HOLLY SPRINGS, MS – Hundreds of alumni from both Rust College and Mississippi Industrial College returned to Holly Springs for the 11th Reunion of Reunions, held July 12-14, 2013.

Several activities were planned and executed for the event including the always-popular Gulf Coast Seafood Party, Bearcat/Tiger Night in Tunica, the Reunion of Reunions Picnic and “A Bearcat/Tiger Affair” held Saturday. Alumni were able to reunite and reconnect with classmates and school friends, while also receiving the opportunity to meet and discuss the happenings of Rust College and Mississippi Industrial College alumni clubs, which are stationed in several states throughout the U.S.

Alumni also received the opportunity to visit and tour Rust College’s most recent acquisition, “Rust at Airliewood”, where the Reunion of Reunions Picnic was held. “Rust at Airliewood” is a Civil War-era estate located on Salem Avenue in Holly Springs, now used as the President’s residence.

During the Gulf Coast Seafood Party Friday, July 12th, a special honor was given to Dr. David L. Beckley for his twenty years of service as president of the College. He was presented a plaque by Dr. Ishmell H. Edwards, Vice President for College Relations, and received tributes from current and former Rust College employees Dr. William Scott, Dr. Warren Booker, and Mr. Alfred Moore. Dr. Beckley began his presidency at Rust College in July 1993, succeeding former president, the late William A. McMillan, Sr.

Other activities included the Necrology Service, in which alumni and friends remembered those who have passed on since the previous Reunion of Reunions, held in 2011. Alumni and guests boarded a chartered bus for a trip to Tunica for fun and games, and the annual Alumni & Friends Celebrity Golf Tournament, held at Kirkwood National Golf Club in Holly Springs, was a success with ten teams participating.
