Rust College Maddie Riley’s Double-Double Lifts The Bearcats Past Crowley’s Ridge

HOLLY SPRINGS, Miss. – The Rust College women’s basketball program leaned on superb outings by Maddie Riley and India Green to blow out the Lady Pioneers, 86-51.

The (RV) Lady Bearcats (7-1, 2-1 GCAC) held a nine-point lead heading into halftime and turned on the jets from there, outscoring Crowley’s Ridge 47-21 in the second half.

The 34-point victory is the third win this year by 30 or more as Coach Jackson’s girls are steamrolling the competition.

The blue and gray made 35-plus field goals for the second time in 2020-21, reached 20-plus assists (25) for the fourth time in eight games, outrebounded CRC by 24 (57-33) and held the Lady Pioneers to a paltry 19.0% (4-of-21) shooting from downtown.

Riley had the game of her life on Thursday evening, posting her first career double-double and the team’s third of the season with a game-best 17 rebounds plus ten points off the bench.

She is the first Rust female to have ten or more rebounds while coming off the bench this season and her 17 boards are the most by a Lady Bearcat so far this season.

Both her point and rebounding totals are new season-highs while she tied her season-best with four field goals.

Green thrived on the offensive side of the ball, pouring in a game and season-high 19 points to go along with new personal-bests for field goals (7) and triples (2).

Faith Cattouse earned her first career start and made the most of it, pulling down a season-high five boards while tying her personal-high with three field goals.

Lisa Crawford set a new career-best with three assists (her first three of 2020-21) and tied her season-best with seven boards.

Shaniyah Meneweather set personal highs for points (8), assists (3) and field goals made (3) while Tekeria Newson did the same in rebounds (8), assists (3) and steals (2).

Tianna Smith set a new personal benchmark for rebounds with four and Bionka Massie drained her first career three-pointer.

Shay Johnson continued to be an excellent floor general for the Lady Cats, giving out a tied for game-high seven assists.

Crowley’s Ridge (5-5) got a stellar performance out of Kianna Hardaway, posting 12 points and 12 boards to be the second consecutive opponent to log a double-double against Rust.

Octavia Lowery led the Lady Pioneers in scoring with 13 and Travia Woodruff tied with Shay Johnson for a game-best seven assists.

The women from Rust College will next see the floor on Friday, January 29 at 5:30 p.m. in Columbus, Mississippi as they head to the Mississippi University for Women to face the Owls.
